Pre-K "Campfire" While Studying the Letter "C"

These are the activities that make my heart smile. This memory is what makes me love what I do. In this picture, Melissa Brock, the Pre-K teacher is reading a story around the mock "campfire" while the Pre-K studies the letter "C". As the students apply the real life applications and create a visual image to help the letter and lesson "stick" they won't forget the letter, the application, or the memory at Boyd Christian School!

If you are a visitor, we offer Pre-K 3 and 4 year old classes, both full and part time.

August 31 FAIR BOOTH CLEAN UP DAY

Dear Parents,

Mr. Dale Bennett has graciously agreed to chair the fair booth this year along with Lisa Zavogiannis and Teresa Stinson. We need your help on Saturday, August 31 at 8:00 a.m. They will meet at the fairgrounds to prepare the booth for fair week. If you cannot work the fair booth during the week, this is a great time to help! It will only take a few hours.
Please understand we never require volunteer hours- we simply trust that each family will donate some time during the year. If you are receiving any financial aid, volunteering is a wonderful way to say "thank you" or to give back.
On this Saturday, we will need a pressure washer, rakes, brooms, bleach, etc. We also need to borrow crock pots and a deep fryer if you would be willing to loan those to us for the week.
Thank you so much for your cooperation. I am truly thankful for those of you who have already signed up to work. The fair food booth is a huge undertaking and Mr. Bennett needs all of us to help. Students may help also with a parent present.

Two gentlemen awaiting class after lunch in the Senior porch.

In the Classroom Today...

 Middle school Math...
 Elementary Spanish....
 Fifth grade Art...
Second grade self portraits...
Come visit us at Boyd Christian School. You are always welcome. Students are always celebrated!

Dear Parents,

We are into week three of school and I am continually motivated and encouraged by our program. I am sitting in on classes, IEP meetings, state training and more. Every day I am learning how to better serve you and your children.

The athletic clubs are well underway and growing. The K-2 cross country team just makes my heart happy. Knowing that we can provide athletics for all grades is something that we can certainly take pride in and we are indebted to our coaches for your generosity. You, too, are touching every life on your team. Thank you.

As we move further into the grading period, and the work load become heavier, please encourage your children to rest and eat breakfast. Check in daily and ask if you can help with homework. Ask to see homework! The more involvement you have with your child, the more successful he or she will be. Remind your child that challenge is how they grow. If everything about school were easy, they would not learn and blossom. As they face challenge, remind them that we are all on their side and we want to see their success. That is why we have dedicated our lives to education.

We dare to stake our hope

on the gladdest news of all:

if God permits the challenge,

He will provide the grace

to meet it.

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Sullens

3rd Grade Science Experiment

I was asked to pay a visit to 3rd grade today to see how their science experiments are progressing. The 3rd grade is studying the scientific method.

They asked each student to wash their hands in a different manner to see which grew the most bacteria. This child had an average bacteria growth from not washing her hands.

This student proves to be very bacteria free, even though he did not wash his hands.

This child used hand sanitizer as opposed to soap.

The students all keep a science journal to record their findings.

They are asking questions, forming a hypothesis, and synthesizing their findings.

They are  all actively engaged and excited to see how the bacteria has grown from day to day.

Mrs. Maranda asks them many questions about their experiment...
... studying vocabulary: bacteria and germs...
 ...recording their findings...
This has been a pleasure to observe today. Thank you for inviting me, 3rd grade!
