ATTENTION PARENTS: We are pleased to announce Coach Johnny Majors as the guest speaker for the April 26 Spring Banquet Fundraiser. Individual tickets are $125 and tables of eight are $1,000. A tailgate party has been planned for 6:00 p.m. at the Bridgestone Learning Center with dinner following at 7:00 p.m.

It’s not too late to test drive a Ford car at the Kidd Ford Dealership. Just go by today or tomorrow with a Test Drive Form from the school office, write high school students name in upper right corner, and make sure the date is dated 3/10/12.

Congratulations to our senior basketball players who will be honored on Thursday, Feb. 16th. Those being recognized on Senior Night are: J.T. Morgan, Brody Fernandez, Kaci Lupo, and Annie Niles. All spectators are encouraged to wear their Black-Out shirts to honor these outstanding players.

The High School students travel to Cannon County Art Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15th to watch the performance of Aladdin. The Middle School has plans to attend on Thursday, Feb. 16th. Both Mason Leonard and Aidan McVey perform in this wonderful classic.

The BCS Outdoor Adventure Club will be sponsoring a hike in the Savage Gulf Natural Area on Saturday, February 18. We will leave from the school at 8:30 a.m. and should return by mid-afternoon. Guides will be Mr. and Mrs. Mike Corley and Dr. and Mrs. Jeff Todd. All middle and high school students may attend. Elementary students are also invited, but must be
accompanied by a parent.

Brandon and Allison Stiles are having a free basketball clinic at the BCS gym for girls & boys in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades. The clinic is held each Saturday in the month of February from 3:00-4:30pm. They are working on key basketball fundamentals (dribbling, shooting, passing, & defense). Fourteen students participated in the first clinic and we encourage more students to get involved!

What an exciting time to be at Boyd Christian School! Every day I see the benefits of attending BCS in the lives of our students. I am so thankful for the parents of our young people who have chosen to give a Christian education to their children. I am thankful for the Christian teachers who sacrifice to teach here as well as the support staff and the work that they do.

I want to challenge every family to bring one new student to Boyd Christian School for the 2012-13 school year. Many times your minister may challenge you to bring one person to Christ during the year. Many times it is what our young people learn in their association with their peers that will determine the destiny of their souls. What better place to be than BCS during their school years and associate with students who are being encouraged to develop Christian morals?

I would like to see every child in this area receive a Christian education if that is what they and their parents desire. If you are interested, please come and visit with us at BCS and let's sit down and talk. If you do not feel you can afford it, scholarships are available on a limited basis. Let's talk and see if something can be worked out. We have donations being made for that purpose and encourage others to also make donations for those interested in a Christian education.

I continue to ask for prayers for the school, its teachers, and administrators. Our school is in need of more students. I am convinced that they are out there; we just have to contact them and encourage them to come and take a look. I think you will like what you see going on at Boyd Christian School.

ACT Prep Classes

Motlow to offer ACT prep class

Area high school students planning to take the ACT this spring have the opportunity to prepare for the test with a course offered at three of Motlow College locations in Moore County, Fayetteville and McMinnville.
The ACT Prep class focuses on the four areas of the ACT: English, mathematics, reading and science.
Emphasis will be on test-taking skills, logical analysis and pacing oneself. Practice tests in each of the four areas will be administered during the course and at the conclusion.
The cost of the class is $60, with an additional $30.95 to purchase a textbook, which will be available on the first night of class.
Checks should be made payable to Motlow College Bookstore, will be required.
Registration forms can be obtained online at www.mscc.edu/cpes. Separate forms are available for each Motlow location offering the course.
Completed forms are to be mailed or faxed to Extended Services at Motlow College. Registration is not complete until payment has been received.
Sheila Gann will be the instructor for the ACT Prep course at Motlow’s Moore County campus. Classes will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays. Course dates are Feb. 27, March 5, 12, 19, and April 2. There is no class scheduled for March 26.
The course is limited to 35 students and the deadline to register is 4:30 p.m. Feb. 22.
The Motlow College Fayetteville Center will offer the course on four consecutive Thursdays, March 15, 22, 29 and April 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. The class is limited to 25 students and the deadline to register is March 8.
Gayle “Mimi” Hughes will be the instructor.
Students wishing to attend the ACT Prep class at Motlow’s McMinnville Center can do so on Tuesdays, Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 and April 3, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There is no class scheduled for March 27. Sheila Gann will be the instructor. The course is limited to 35 students and the deadline to register is Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
The classes at Motlow are designed to prepare students for the national ACT test date on April 14. Taking the prep class does not register a student to sit for the actual ACT.
Students must register separately with ACT to take the national exam; the deadline to register is March 9. Information about how to register for the test can be obtained at www.ACT.org.

Bidding starts today on the Valentine bears, candy, and balloons that are on display in the elementary hallway for the Silent Auction. The final bid can be placed on Friday, Feb. 10th, at 3:30 in the afternoon. Please write your name, phone number, and bid amount and drop in the bag provided.

A Minister/Youth Minister Lunch Day has been organized by P.T.F. President Cappi Jones for Wednesday, Feb. 29. Invitations have been sent home with students to invite their preacher or youth minister to Boyd for an opportunity to have lunch with the youth of their congregation. Special thanks to Dachelle McVey, Sonia Vandagriff, Nancy Mayfield, and the many parents and students that worked so diligently on the Homecoming festivities. The beautiful decorations, wonderful food, and winning ballgames all made for a night to remember!

Congratulations to our BCS Homecoming King and Queen: Mr. Brody Fernandez and Miss Rachel Hale! Brody is the son of James “Chico” Fernandez and the late Khyva Cope, and Rachel is the daughter of Adrian and Cynthia Hale.

Congratulations are also in order to 5th grade student Saylor Hodges who recently won the 4-H “Overall Winner” Poster Contest! Saylor’s poster won out of 690 entries and will be used on the 4-H T-shirt and the 4-H Yearbook cover for the next year.

Mrs. Brittany’s Pre-K class won the Box Tops Award for the second nine weeks. Way to go Pre-K!

Reminder to parents: TCAP Writing Assessments for 5th, 8th, and 11th grade will be administered on Wednesday, Feb. 1st. (Students, please be extra quiet in the halls during testing.)

Spirit Week!
The key to a successful spirit week is to get everyone involved in the activities! Monday: PAJAMA DAY, Tuesday: WESTERN DAY, Wednesday: NERD DAY, Thursday: TACKY DAY, and Friday: SPIRIT DAY. Let’s show our school pride with 100% participation on each day as we prepare for the grand finale------HOMECOMING! Martin Luther King showed us that change can be made through peaceful demonstrations. He showed us that we do not have to strike back when someone does us wrong. He made so many of us to stop and look at the way things were being done in this nation and that the way we had been doing things was not right.

His dream was that one day we would be one; one in opportunity, one in support of this nation, and where each one would be paid a living wage. We have come a long way, but there still is more to do. It is now up to us to carry forth what Martin Luther King and others like him, started. If this nation is to ever achieve what it is able to accomplish, it is going to take all of us doing our part. I like the words of John F. Kennedy when he said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."

Men of all colors have fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today and will continue to do so. Martin Luther King fought and died for a cause in which he believed. Are we willing to do the same? Are we willing to take a part in helping this great nation to be what MLK envisioned? If so we must be willing participants in the democratic process. We must not tear down but build up by being good citizens of the land in which we live. We must ask what can I do for my country.

I think this is what Dr. King would have wanted.

HIGH SCHOOL FUNDRAISER: Please make plans to test drive a new car at the Kidd Ford Dealership on March 10th to raise money for the Senior Trip Fund. Twenty dollars will be donated for each test drive with the potential of raising up to $6,000! This fundraiser is not limited to seniors only and will give freshmen, sophomores, and juniors an opportunity to collect funds for their senior trip. (Must be 18 yrs. old or older )

Hat Day has been rescheduled for Friday, January 20. If you would like to participate, please bring $1 to your first period class. There will also be a BEST HAT AWARD!

Homecoming festivities have been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:00.

BOOK FAIR NEWS: Please make plans to attend our upcoming Book Fair Jan 30 – Feb 2. Family night is scheduled for Jan 31 from 3-5 pm. Spend $5 or more at family night and enter to win one of four $25 gift certificates.

It is good to be back after the Christmas break. I hope that the time off refreshed you as it did me. It is hard for me to realize that it is 2012. It seems the older I get the faster time flies. Won’t it be grand when we get to heaven and not have to worry about time. Here on this earth though, we must use our time wisely and in service to our Creator.

I want to congratulate our Middle School girls for winning the Morrison Ruritan Invitational Basketball Tournament. I also encourage you to come out and see our students play. All the teams, elementary through high school, play hard and give their best efforts every night. I know the teams will appreciate your support.

This current school year will be over before we know it and we must plan for the 2012-13 school year. It is my hope and prayer that all of our current students will be returning and that several new students will be coming our way. If you know of anyone who is considering sending their children to BCS and you think it would help by my talking to them, please let me know. More than anything else, we need to increase our enrollment.

In closing, I would like to thank each and every student who remembered me at Christmas with gifts, homemade candy, and sweet cards. Truly, I am blessed to be working at Boyd Christian School with such a wonderful family of students, faculty, and staff.

On behalf of Boyd Christian School, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to Mr. Ray Talbert of Homeland Community Bank for sponsoring the recent workshop “Healthy Choices for Youth”. This workshop was organized for both public and private schools in Warren County to discuss very important issues students are facing today such as teen suicide, ADD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Homeland Bank generously gave each guidance counselor a $500 voucher to purchase materials being sold at the workshop. Books purchased for Boyd School included subjects on bullying, anxiety, depression, divorce, OCD, ADD, ADHD, and building character, just to name a few.
Please take the time to thank Mr. Talbert for his concern for the youth in Warren County and his investment in their future.

Our high school students are busy with semester tests this week while our elementary and middle school students are excitedly waiting for Christmas vacation. Let me take this opportunity to wish the best of this holiday season to each of you.

It is hard to believe that the first semester is winding down. This has been a good year thus far and I look forward to a good second semester. There is still a lot of work to do in this school year, however. Our success, I am convinced, came so far this year because of a lot of people working for a common goal. That goal is to work together to make Boyd Christian School the best it can be. As long as we work within Biblical guidelines, I am assured that God will give the increase. That doesn’t mean that we are going to wait on God to do the work. We must continue to pray for BCS, encourage parents to send their children here, and look for ways we can be more financially stable.

We are near the half way point on the 100 for 100 campaign to raise $120,000 for BCS. A lot of you have given freely of your resources and for your gift, I and the board are thankful. There still are those who have intended to give but have not done so as yet. Please sit down tonight and write out a check and help us reach our $120,000 goal. If you work for a company who makes donations to schools, please ask them to consider giving to Boyd Christian School. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we went over our goal by the end of January? We really need to do that in order to finish out the year in the black.

Some of the things you can do for BCS includes but are not limited to the following: 1. Pray for the school; 2. Talk to your church about putting BCS on their prayer list; 3. Encourage others to send their children to Boyd; 4. Look for ways you can suggest to raise funds for BCS (we desperately need to develop a capital improvement fund so that we might one day build a new facility); 5. Help us to start an alumni association whose goal would be to raise funds for BCS. I know there are other things that would help and my door is always open to you for suggestions.

I hope each of you have a great Christmas with friends and loved ones.

The BCS Christmas program will be performed on Friday, Dec. 16 at 8:15 in the school gym. A special thank you to director Melissa Brock for organizing this event and to each teacher that practiced daily with their students.

The McMinnville Parks and Recreation would like to announce that registration for the 2012 McMinnville Indoor Soccer League has been extended until Saturday, Dec. 10. It is hard for me to realize it, but this is Thanksgiving week and I have so much for which I am thankful. I am thankful for a God that loves me and desires that I do those things necessary to live with him eternally. I am thankful for Jesus who died for my sins. I am thankful for my family with whom I will celebrate Thanksgiving, God willing. I am thankful for all the students, teachers, staff, and patrons at Boyd Christian School. Finally, I am thankful for God blessing this school in the past and pray he will continue to do so in the future.

We continue to have a good school year. Our students and teachers are working hard and the staff is so consistent in its support. However, none of this would be possible except for the support of the parents and patrons who have worked tirelessly in the different fundraising activities. I regret that we seemingly have to continuously ask our parents and patrons to support this or that fundraising activity. However, that is the way it is. We stand at a little over $40,000 in our effort to raise $120,000 through the 100 for $100 a month for 12 months. We seem to have hit a wall since Applefest, but I am convinced that with God’s help, we will achieve our goal before the end of the school year. If any of you know of an individual who could give a substantial amount toward this effort, I would appreciate hearing about it. If I need to visit with anyone who can give but need to hear about what we are trying to do, please let me know.

My spirit continues to be lifted up by our students and staff. I have never worked in an atmosphere as conducive to learning as we have here at BCS. The students are eager to learn and our teachers work hard to have lesson plans prepared that are challenging. Truly your children are in good hands being taught by Godly men and women. They are being nurtured in the ways of the Lord and I am sure this will prove beneficial for Christ’s kingdom in the future.

Please keep BCS in your prayers. Tell others of the benefits of a Christian education. Encourage those needing a tax break to give to Boyd Christian School. If you are preparing your will, please consider leaving a gift for the school. You will be investing in the future of the church.

God bless all of you and your families during not only the Thanksgiving season, but for the rest of your days upon the earth and most importantly, eternity.

Foster Child
Student Council will be adopting a local foster child at Christmas and provide gifts for them. In order to raise funds to purchase these gifts, a bake sale will be held in the cafeteria all this week. All items will sell for .50 cents. The Junior Auxiliary “Christmas in the Park” has been set for Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the downtown square in McMinnville. Christmas Luminaries can be purchased for $10 in memory of a loved one or to honor a special veteran. Savage Gulf Hike
The Boyd Christian School Outdoor Club will hike Savage Gulf on Saturday, November 12. We will leave the school parking lot at 8;30 a.m. and return at approximately 2:0 p.m. that afternoon. Transportation will be provided. Those going on the hike should take along a jacket, water, and a sack lunch. Also, it is important to wear proper shoes and socks. Do not wear flip flops or crocs, please!

The hike will begin at the main entrance of the park. The trail is 5-6 miles long and should not be too strenuous. We look forward to spending an enjoyable day with you in one of Tennessee’s most beautiful wilderness areas.

Today is the first day back from Fall Break. It is hard to believe that one-fourth of
the school year is over. It has been a fast pace first nine weeks. I encourage all parents to continue to monitor your children’s progress by going to Engrade. If you have not yet received an access code, contact us at school and we will take care of the matter.
I would like to personally thank each parent and patron who have supported Boyd Christian School thus far this year. Your help and support during fair week, mum sale, Applefest, and the pledge drive is deeply appreciated. Without that support, BCS would cease to be.
While much has been done, there is much more to do. We are at a little more than 25% on our pledge drive; currently at $35,900. If you know of others who can give in order to raise the needed $120,000 for this school year, pledge cards are available in the office.
Our kids deserve the opportunity to attend a school such as F.C. Boyd Christian School. If I can be of assistance or if I am needed to visit an individual, business, or church, please let me know. Above all, keep BCS in your prayers.

PARENTS:
Report Cards will be going out on Tuesday, October 18 and parent-teacher conferences will be held Thursday, Oct. 20. Please return parent-teacher forms to the office on Wednesday, Oct. 19 if you would like to schedule an appointment.

A senior trip meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27 for both students and parents. The meeting will be held in Mrs. McVey’s classroom at 5:30 pm.

Due to the early departure of the elementary field trip, the school bus will be running ten minutes EARLY on Friday, Oct. 21. This field trip for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be leaving school promptly at 7:45 am to take the walking tour of downtown Nashville. Students must wear their blue polo’s and bring a sack lunch, (not a lunch box).

After weeks of planning and hard work, Applefest has finally arrived! On Saturday. October 8, LACE will host their annual fundraiser between the hours of 10:00 and 5:00 for a day filled with fun, food, and games. The Senior class will be selling hand-painted pumpkins at Applefest to raise funds for their Senior Trip. Parents and students both are needed to work the concession and games. Please see your child’s teacher to sign up for these important areas. Items that are still needed for the Scavenger Hunt are: Hotdog and hamburger buns, single serving bags of chips, 12 oz. can drinks (name brand), 2 liter drinks, and Little Debbie Snack Cakes.

Thank you to all those who have purchased Foodland Plus Cards which are available in $25, $50, and $100 amounts. Please stop by the office to purchase these cards and Foodland will donate 10% of sales to BCS. We also have a new supply of Kroger cards which offer 4%.

In order to prepare for Applefest on October 8, the school will be conducting a Scavenger Hunt that is based on a point system. Soup labels, aluminum cans, soft drinks, cleaning supplies, yearbook ads, and new ink cartridges are only a few of the items on the list. Points range from 10 to 50,000 based on value of points! The collection dates are Monday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 7. For more information, please see Mrs. Sonia Vandagriff, coordinator of this event.

On October 15, our local Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville will be hosting their annual “Coats for the Community”. These new or gently used coats provide cold weather wear and accessories to community members in need. Items needed are: coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, scarves, and gloves from newborn to adults. Last year, there was a shortage of infant and child girl coats, so please remember this group too. Used items will need to be washed beforehand which allows the Junior Auxiliary more time to collect items.
To make this program successful, BCS Interact students have volunteered to collect the donated items from the classrooms. On Friday, September 30, please bring your items to your first period class and Interact members will do the rest. Every coat will be appreciated and placed in the hands of someone in need.

Response to the mum sale has been overwhelming! Thank you to Holly Hillis for spearheading this event and to Wade Whitmore and his parents for providing these beautiful mums! Sept. 30 will be the last turn in date if you want to pick up your mums at Applefest.

Boyd seeks pledges to help meet budget shortfall for the 2011-12 school year.

Boyd Christian School headmas-ter Weldon Parkinson, left, re-ceives a check from parent Jamie Stinson and his son Alex, 8, as part of the school’s “100 for $100 Pledge Drive” which is raising money to overcome a budget shortfall for the 2011-12 school year.

Like many private educational institutions, Boyd Christian School is suffering the effects o current economic conditions, even to the point the respected local Christian school will be unable to make its budget for this school year due to a drop in enrollment, according to headmaster Weldon Parkinson.
As a result, Parkinson has come up with a unique fundraising plan which will give Boyd supporters the chance to help the school overcome this financial challenge.
Parkinson explained the school’s need and how the fundraiser will work.

“I decided if we could get 100 indi-viduals to pledge that they would raise or give $100 per
month for 12 months, that would raise $120,000,” Parkinson said. “When you break it down like that, then that is a doable thing. It would be hard for an individual to raise that kind of money, but what we can do collectively as a school, as a patron’s organization, as individuals giving to the school, then I think it is a reacha-ble goal. We’re calling it the 100 for $100 Pledge Drive.”
“We are asking all of our parents and patrons, all of the people who have loved and supported and benefited from Boyd Christian School, to rise up to the challenge and overcome this hurdle,” Parkinson said.
Parkinson says he hopes local busi-nesses, organizations and individu-als will join in the pledge drive, but noted $100 per month is not re-quired.
“If you can’t do the $100, then give what you can,” Parkinson said. “Because we understand there are people who just can’t do that. This is where 10 people who can give $10 or more for a year can be one of the 100.”
Parkinson says he realizes some pledge participants may not want to divide the payments up and would rather make a $1,200 donation.
“We have already had people do that,” Parkinson said. “They’ve writ-ten out the check
for the whole amount at one time. That money has been collected, unlike the pledges which will be paid by the month. We have already re-ceived those donations and we’re at $15,650 right now I think.”
Parkinson says he is making the pledge himself, and feels it is im-portant to provide the option for a Christian-based education in the community.
“To me we are building the future leaders of the church here,” Parkin-son said. “We can tell story after story of graduates who are now serving as song leaders, as Bible teachers, even preaching in the pulpit.
“A Christian education, whether you preach or teach or things of that nature, is important to the communi-ty. You know, the Bible teaches us to love one another, and these stu-dents that come to Boyd are going out to the community and working with these clubs and organizations that give so much back to the com-munity, that are always doing ser-vice projects. They’re a part of that. I think Christian education is very important, it teaches us the im-portance of making God a part of our lives.”

Like many private educational institutions, Boyd Christian School is suffering the effects o current economic conditions, even to the point the respected local Christian school will be unable to make its budget for this school year due to a drop in enrollment, according to headmaster Weldon Parkinson.

The fair is over and a lot of people can now relax a little. I would like to thank each and everyone who worked, brought food, baked pies, and did countless additional things that made BCS Food Booth a success. I would like to name each of you but I know I would leave some of you out. It always amazes me at what we can accomplish when we work together. Individually, we can never have accomplished more than we can collectively. Working together for the good of others is the Christian way.

On several occasions over the past few weeks, we have had former students come in and tell us how much they miss being at Boyd Christian School. They tell stories of what a difference BCS made in their lives. I have asked several of them to write their feelings down so I can share them with others. I would like to ask any of you who would like to share your experiences with BCS, to write your comments about how the school has made a difference in your life, or the lives of your children or grandchildren. I think these stories can be a great selling point for encouraging others to attend BCS.

We are nearing the end of September, and soon Christmas and the end of the first semester will be here. We need those of you who have committed to the 100 for $100 a month for a year pledge drive, to fill out the cards and turn them into the office. Continue to ask others in the community, church, or friends and relatives outside the area to make a pledge. There is a poster in the front window next to the door that is charting the giving thus far. We want to blow the top off the thermometer!!! Let’s make this pledge drive as successful as we did with the fair. With us working together, we can accomplish this goal.

Our Grandparents Day Program was a huge success! It was wonderful to see our sweet grandparents visiting the classrooms, posing for photos, and enjoying Mrs. Barbara’s home cooked meal! Special thanks to Gordon Mayfield for not only shooting the pictures, but for donating the proceeds as well.

The Board of Directors and Headmaster of Boyd Christian School are trying to raise $120,000 by this time next year. We are asking 100 businesses, organizations, and/or individuals to pledge $100 donations every month for a year. One time donations are also very much appreciated. This money will be used to sustain the everyday operations of Boyd Christian School.

Wow! Due to the tremendous response to the Mum Sale at Caney Fork Electric, we have decided to run the sale again next Saturday, September 17, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Holly Hillis will be ordering extra tri-colored flowers which include purple, white, and yellow, along with the regular colors.

The Foodland Plus cards have arrived and are available in $25, $50, and $100 amounts. Please stop by the office to purchase these cards and Foodland will donate 10% of sales to BCS. We also have a new supply of Kroger cards which offer 4%.

Parents, please remember your food items for the Fair Food Booth and the date you are down to work. This is a huge fundraiser for the school and can only be successful if we all do our part. Also, we have had several cancellations that need to be filled. Please call the school if you can help. Thank you!!

The Sept. 13th Middle School Tremont Meeting has been canceled until further notice. Plans will be made to reschedule after the fair.

The Grandparents Day Luncheon has been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9th. If you have reserved a meal, please arrive at the time of your grandchild’s regular lunch period.
Students may be checked out by their grandparent immediately following lunch.

Attention Junior’s and Senior’s! It is very important to fill out the College Scholarship Form and return to Mrs. Deitra as soon as possible. These forms are available in Mrs. Corley’s room. Also, the A.C.T. will be given on Saturday, Sept. 10th at 8:00 in the cafeteria. If you have not signed up for this test, please make plans to sign up immediately for the test in October. Dates and deadlines are posted on the Guidance Office door.

On Saturday, Sept. 10th, BCS will be selling beautiful MUMS for $12 on the front lawn of Caney Fork Electric. These three gallon containers are 25 inches wide and 22 inches high. You may purchase these flowers between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Your support is always appreciated.

Once again it is time for our biggest fundraiser of the fall semester. We are currently planning the Fair Food Booth. Thanks to the great efforts of our wonderful group of concerned parents we have been able to raise considerable funds each year to support the school through this fundraiser. This year will be no exception. Don’t forget that this year, like last year, the fair is 9 days long! This is a great opportunity to earn extra funds, but requires more effort on the part of the parents. Each parent is expected to serve one to two shifts, but we know many of you sign up for many shifts and some of you for every day of the week. For that we are very grateful!!!

Attached is a schedule of work shifts. If you have already signed up, THANK YOU! If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, please sign up for one of the yellow or red hi-lighted shifts (blue shifts are for students only). The red shifts indicate shifts that are critical to running the booth smoothly. If these shifts aren’t filled, we will run the danger of closing for that day.
When signing up, please include your phone number so we can call & remind you. Please note that we will NOT be open on Sunday or Wednesday. Please return the schedules to your child’s teacher or to Mrs. Stubblefield or come by the front office and sign the sheet. If you received the schedule via email, you can return it via email.

Saturday Canoe Trip on the Barren Fork

We will meet at Pepper Branch Park at 8:30 a.m. Our voyage will take about
four hours and we will take out at the McMinnville VFW around 1:00. Your parents
should pick you up there, but if that is a problem , we can take you back to school
(it will just take a little longer).

Don't forget to bring your life jackets and sunscreen. Also bring water, a sack
lunch and/or snacks as we will be taking a picnic break along the way.

In Luke 2:52 we read, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This is the mission of Boyd Christian School in working with our students. We want them to grow like Jesus. In reality, isn’t this what all of us are suppose to be doing? We want our young people to be taught to learn about and be obedient to Jesus. As Christians we are trying to be more and more like Jesus. To set a good example for our young people is a duty all of the staff at BCS takes seriously.

We also want to encourage our students to reach their potential through hard work and study. We recognize not all our students are college bound, but with the technology in industry today, preparation is still important. We simply want them to find a work they love and be prepared to do the job in a way that is pleasing to God. Education is a life long endeavor.

We also want to encourage our parents to be involved in their children’s education. You can do that by knowing how your student is doing. If you have not signed up for Engrade, please do so by contacting the office. We will get back to you and get you signed up so you can check assignments, grades, etc. throughout the nine week period. If you need to meet with your child’s teachers, please call and we will set up a parent/teacher/student conference.

We want everyone to know that this is your school. Be an active stakeholder in your child’s education. That will help a great deal in the preparation of your children for the future both with God and man.

“THE DAWNING OF A NEW DAY AT BOYD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL”

Recently I had the privilege of meeting a man who means a great deal to Boyd Christian School. In fact, it was largely because of his and others like him, efforts and hard work that BCS is what it is today. This man worked for many years to insure students were able to attend a Christian school right here in this community. When something needed to be done, I am told Mr. C.N. Womack saw that it was done.

I know I cannot have the same impact that Mr. Womack had during his many years of service to this school. As the headmaster I don’t know that anyone can. All I can do is to try to carry on the tradition of Christian education as we now have it in this area of Middle Tennessee.

In order to accomplish this goal, we must all be united in one mind and spirit. We must allow problems of the past that has separated us be forgotten. Yes, mistakes were made and being human we will make future mistakes. But with the guidance of God, and forgiving one another, we can be the light in this community that Mr. Womack and others like him envisioned.

It is the dawning of a new day. What will this day bring? That question will be answered by each of us who are stakeholders in this school. Will I be a source of strength and encouragement? Will I work with my time and resources to make it better? Or will I hold on to my grudge and in reality, hurt myself by so doing? Jesus said to forgive in Matthew 18. I am asking as the new administrator that you forgive all past mistakes and lets pull together to make Boyd Christian School the best it can be. You will be proud you did.

Our numbers are down and we are going to have to make up the shortage in the budget. If you can make a tax free donation now or any time in the near future please do so. As tax time approaches and you find you need a tax deduction please remember Boyd Christian School.

Our future depends upon us uniting and truly having a common goal of making sure it truly is the dawning of a day where we have a bright and glorious future as the only Christian school in this area.

Grandparents’ Day Luncheon
Dear Parents and/or Grandparents,
We will be having our Grandparents’ Luncheon on Friday, September 9th. The menu will consist of hamburger steak, baked potato, side salad, broccoli and cheese, a roll, dessert, and a drink. All grandparents and students should have reserved their spot for this meal by today ( Aug. 29th).
The kindergarten, first, second, and fifth grade students have been asked to bring in a pan of brownies for the meal. The pre-kindergarten, third, and fourth grade students have been asked to bring in a gallon of sweet or unsweet tea. Please send these items to school with your child on Thursday, September 8th.
Mayfield Photography will be at school on this day to take pictures of the children with their grandparents or parents. He will be offering a 5X7 and four wallets for $10.00. All the proceeds from the photographs will go to the school.
