Dear Parents,
If you are going to see the Atlanta Braves baseball game on June 1 to hear the
chorus sing, and especially if you have never been to a game at Turner Field
before, here is some important information.
1. Please look at this website:
http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/atl/ballpark/security.jsp. This will give you
lots of valuable information about the stadium.
2. The main plaza gate will open at 4:40. The first pitch is at 7:10. The
chorus will sing about 6:45.
3. You may bring your own food and drinks. However, please remember the
following. No cans or glass bottles may be brought into the stadium. Small
soft sided coolers may be brought in...small enough to carry over a shoulder.
The cooler may not be plastic or hard sided.
4. In addition to purses, small backpacks or knapsacks may be carried in, but
please observe the size restrictions mentioned on the webpage. All bags are
searched upon entry to the stadium.
5. Parking is $12 if you purchase parking the day of the game at the stadium.
You may purchase a parking pass online ahead of time for $10. You can
purchase a parking pass online at this webpage:
http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/atl/ballpark/directions.jsp#map
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me and I will try to
answer them.
Thanks!

Today was our annual Career Day here at school. Mrs. Gayle Mayfield, our guidance counselor, did an outstanding job in assembling a group of interesting speakers. This year’s group included Candice King, CPA from Totherow, Haile, and Welch PLLC, Andrea Porter, RN, and Brad Whitson, Physical Therapist, from Amedisys Home Health Care, Brianna Zuber, Ponda Armstrong, and Aaron Cole, graduate students form the biology department at Tennessee Tech, Dr. DeRosa Stephens, optometrist from Horner-Rausch Optical, Ashley Wright, community relations coordinator from River Park Hospital, and Nita Brooks and Melinda Korzaan, Assistant Professors, Information Systems, from MTSU. Special thanks go Rebecca Merritt of the Bonnie Blue Inn for providing lunch for our guests, Adelia’s Blooms for flower gifts, and our PTF for providing funding.

The early enrollment deadline has been extended until Friday, May 7. Parents have until that date to register and receive the $50 discount off the registration fee. Registration has been strong; current registrations are approximately 5 times the number we had at this time last year. Please remember that this year’s annual Spring Banquet will be held on Monday evening, May 17, 2010, at the Bridgestone Learning Center. We are very excited that Don Meyer has agreed to be our guest speaker. Parents/BCS Supporters,
I want to give you a quick overview of tonight's PTF meeting. There is a display of the Mother's Day Baskets as you walk in the main hallway of the Elementary building along with a list breaking down the items in each basket. The prices range from $10 to $30; these baskets also make great birthday gifts. You may purchase these from Terry Stubblefield in the office; checks can be made out to Boyd Christian School. One of the baskets has a gift certificate from Gondola; we appreciate the donation of the gift cards from Lisa Zavogiannis and her husband. We are looking at two campus clean up days before Open House; tentative dates are July 17th & 24th or July 24th & 31st. Once the Open House date has been set I'll send an e- mail to notify you of the exact dates. Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day has been scheduled for Friday, May 7th. There is a sign up list in Terry Stubblefield's office; if you cannot prepare food for that day, you can give money to go toward a food tray such as vegetables, fruit, meat & cheese, etc. There will not be a May PTF meeting. Chorus is going to have a bake sale, so if you can prepare baked items have them at school May 21st; I hope that is the right date Mrs. Hagar. Thank you for all that you do for Christian Education.

This year’s annual Spring Banquet will be held on Monday evening, May 17, 2010, at the Bridgestone Learning Center. We are very excited that Don Meyer has agreed to be our guest speaker. Coach Meyer was formerly the men’s basketball coach at Lipscomb University in Nashville, and has just retired from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Coach Meyer is the winningest men’s coach in NCAA history and led Lipscomb to the NAIA National Championship in 1986.

In September, 2008, Coach Meyer was involved in a devastating automobile accident. During the emergency surgery that followed, doctors discovered cancer which proved to be treatable. Although he lost part of one leg as a result of the accident, the cancer very likely would have gone undetected until it was too late. Here is a story from ESPN about Coach Meyer’s accident and his return to coaching.:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/e60/news/story?id=3710245

In July, 2009, Coach Meyer was nominated for and awarded the Jimmy V. Award for Perseverance at the 2009 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles.

Tickets for this event will be $125 each. Tables of 8 seats will be $1,000, or 10 seats for $1,250. Please call Terry Stubblefield at school to reserve your seats.

Our Open House last Thursday was very successful. Several families were in attendance, and all are seriously considering sending their children to Boyd.

Please remember that school will be closed this Friday, April 2, and will be closed all of next week for Spring Break.

Spring Open House

On Thursday evening, March 25, we will host an Open House for prospective students and their families from 6:00 to 8:00 PM here at school. This is a very important event as we make plans for next year. Please encourage your friends and associates who may be considering sending their children to Boyd to come and join us for this evening. This will be an excellent opportunity for visitors to see our school and to meet the teachers. Guests may feel free to drop in at any time during the evening.

Thank you to all of you who completed the recent online survey which was mentioned in a previous newsletter. We have started a new survey about the school climate/environment. Please take a few moments this week and complete the survey. The deadline to complete the survey is next Monday, March 8. Again, this is an important step in our accreditation process. The link for the new survey is:
