May 27, 2009

Dear Parents, Teachers, and Friends:

Last week, Mr. Ben Nixon announced his resignation from the Board of Directors of Boyd Christian School. Mr. Nixon has served the Board for eighteen years, including the last four as Chairman. As Vice-chairman, I will assume the duties of Chairman until our annual election of officers in July.

Mr. Nixon’s leadership on the board has been invaluable. He has helped to lead the school through challenging times. During Mr. Nixon’s tenure on the Board we added our high school. In addition to countless hours of service at Board meetings and other functions, Mr. Nixon has tirelessly volunteered his time and money to take care of maintenance and repairs at the school. I hope that all of you will join us in expressing appreciation to Mr. Nixon for his years of faithful service to the students of Boyd Christian School.

In Christ,

Brett Merritt

A big thank you goes to our BBB Athletic Booster Club for hosting the high school Athletic Awards Banquet last Saturday night. Club president Steve Tilton and the rest of the officers and members put in many hours to help support our athletic program. Thank you to all of you who came and supported their spaghetti supper. Without the efforts of parent volunteers, we would not be able to have extra-curricular programs like this.

Some of you have been eating at Pizza Hut on Wednesday evenings so that the school can get a 20% rebate from Pizza Hut on your bill. Now, we are able to get an additional rebate. We now have $10 Pizza Hut gift cards on sale in the school office. If you will come by the office sometime before you go to Pizza Hut on Wednesday nights and get a gift card to pay with, the school gets an extra 8%. We appreciate your efforts to support the school with these programs.

Please remember that will reinstate the bus route to Cannon and Coffee Counties for next year. More details about the cost will be provided in the near future.

Scholarships Available for Pre-Kinder

We have recently learned that we have up to three scholarships available for pre-kinder students through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These are federal dollars which are available and are based on financial need. If you have a child who you would like to enroll in pre-kinder for next year, or if you have friends or relatives who might be interested and may be able to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact the school office.

Please remember to tell your relatives and friends about the addition of our 3 year old pre-kinder class. We still have space available. Interested families should register their children right away. Some parents have inquired about the possibility of 3 year olds attending part time. This may be a possibility, but we need to make sure that parents who want to enroll their child full time have the opportunity to do so. Also, in order to offer the program, we have to have a minimum of seven full time students, or the equivalent.

Cinco De Mayo

BCS Supporters,
PTF wants to "Thank you" for coming through once again for us with flying colors! This past Friday was Teacher/Faculty Appreciation Day; it was WONDERFUL. The faculty could not believe all of the food that was provided along with the GREAT door prizes. It was nice to see their smiling faces which YOU helped make possible. Whether you cooked food, sent money, brought drinks, etc. this special day was made possible because YOU wanted to do something special for our teachers and faculty. I have been given a lot of "thank yous" and "you don't know how much this means to us" since Friday; they are very appreciative of what you did for them. We held our last PTF meeting for the year on April 30th. We have scheduled another work day for July 25th from 8-12:00 PM; this is on a Saturday. Please mark your calendar now to help clean the BCS campus for Open House. Bring any yard equipment that you can for that day such as power washers, items to trim trees/limbs, clothes to paint in, etc. If you have questions, you may e-mail me at aramsey@fcbcs.org I was told today that all of the Mother's Day Baskets have been bought except for one-$12 item. If you would like to purchase the last one, contact Terry Stubblefield or Sonia Vandagriff. At this time, plan on the next PTF meeting being sometime in August after school gets started. We will have a lot to plan; especially getting our booth ready for the Warren County A & L Fair. PTF wants to thank you for all that you have done this past school year to help BCS and Christian Education. We couldn't do it without YOU! Thanks again and have a GREAT and SAFE summer.

Our Open House for prospective families seems to have been very successful. Many families visited the school that evening. Eight new students registered for the 2009-2010 school year that night, and others have registered since then. Special thanks go to LACE, PTF, and BBB for helping with refreshments that evening.

I also want to thank PTF for all that they did on Teacher Appreciation Day last Friday. Thanks to Mrs. Angela Ramsey, the PTF president, and the rest of the PTF members, for the wonderful food and other special touches they provided last Friday to make our teachers feel appreciated.

We have had new students enroll who live in Cannon and Coffee counties. We will reinstate the bus route next year. More details about the cost will be provided in the near future.

Last Wednesday, sixteen of our students were treated to lunch at Pizza Hut by the BBB club. This was recognition for being the top sellers in their recent fundraiser. The students traveled in style to Pizza Hut in a Hummer limousine provided by All O-K’sions. Thanks to Pam and Miles Wilson for their generosity in providing transportation.

The middle school Beta club trip to Huntsville will proceed as scheduled this Wednesday and Thursday, May 13 and 14.

I want to thank all of you who supported our Grandparents’ Day. Special thanks go to Mrs. Melissa Brock for all of her hard work in putting together our musical program.

There has been much in the news lately about outbreaks of swine flu. I want you to know that this has not gone unnoticed here, and we are taking precautions. I spoke with our cleaning service last Friday to confirm our procedures. All of our bathrooms are disinfected weekly. In addition, all desktops in the classrooms are disinfected at the end of the week.

We have a middle school trip to the Space Center in Huntsville scheduled for May 13 and 14. There have been swine flu cases reported in Huntsville. We are re-assessing the situation and will make a decision this Friday regarding whether or not to continue with our plans to go to Huntsville.

The Board has approved the proposed $10 per month tuition increase. An updated enrollment contract is available in the office. Please remember to pre-register for 2009-10 as soon as possible. May 15 is the deadline for the early registration bonus. The Board has also approved the calendar for next year. It also will be posted on the website.

Our recent Career Day was a big success. Special thanks to Mr. Jason Gann for organizing this event, and also to all of our guest speakers. Special thanks also go to Mr. Gann’s parents for providing lunch for our guests.
