Boyd Christian School hosts a College Fair Day

F.C. Boyd Christian School recently held a College Fair Day for their high school students.  Representatives from the following colleges were on hand for the event:      Freed-Hardeman University, University of TNKnoxville, University of TNChattanooga, Lipscomb University, Motlow State Community College, Tennessee Tech University, Middle TN State University, and Austin Peay State University.

Marco DiLuca, Admissions Counselor for Freed-Hardeman University, said “I am thankful for College Fair Days because it gives me the opportunity to recruit students in person.”  The college representatives talked with the students and provided admissions and scholarship information.  Allison Stiles, BCS Guidance Counselor, gave all of the freshman, sophomore, and junior students a packet including ways to jumpstart college planning and an action plan for each year of high school.  The seniors were given a college expectations & study skills guide, and reminders about admissions/scholarship deadlines.  The parents of the students were also invited and given a parents’ practical guide to college and financial aid information.

The students were very excited about the event and enjoyed meeting with the representatives.  Junior student, Caleb Rigsby, said “This was very informative and I’m starting on my college applications this month!”  Currently all of Boyd’s high school seniors have plans to attend college, excluding one student who plans to enlist in the Air Force.  Boyd considered the College Fair Day to be a huge success and is very grateful to all who participated.

Dr. Harrub Visits Boyd Middle & High School Students

Dr. Brad Harrub Speaks to Boyd Students

Dr. Brad Harrub held a seminar for the F.C. Boyd Christian School students this past week.  He holds a PhD in anatomy and neurobiology from the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee at Memphis and is widely known for the scientific approach he takes in providing the evidence that supports man’s origins from God and disputes the teachings of evolution as a fact.  He has authored several books including “Convicted: A Scientist Examines the Evidence for Christianity” and also serves as the Executive Director and cofounder of Focus Press and as co-editor of “Think” magazine, a monthly magazine on Christian Evidences.

Boyd’s middle and high school students were blessed to participate in his “Truth About Origins” seminar which he conducts throughout the country and around the world over 40 times each year.  Dr. Harrub spoke plainly about the importance of understanding the evidences proving the origin of man from God.  He stated that public schools and colleges are teaching evolution in their science classes as a fact without sound evaluation of the evidence.  The students need to ask their teachers where the evidence for evolution is, noting that their evidence is Hollywood, not science!  They’re not looking at the evidence instead they are trying to take God out of the picture.

When a Boyd student asked Dr. Harrub what made him want to go around the world speaking against evolution, he replied I decided to be a physician of the soul rather than a medical doctor!  Dr. Harrub continues to teach and share his messages on the origins of earth providing evidence that supports a Christian world view…..a valuable message for the Boyd students as they prepare for their future endeavors.

Dear BCS Parents:

I am starting my mini-nutrition and exercise classes with our Elementary P.E. students and will be having them over the next month.  I will be sending home handouts each week to help you see what we are talking about.  Please read over the handouts and help me to promote healthy eating and exercise with our students.  Physical activity and eating a healthy diet can promote happiness, health, more energy and a longer life.  I also want to share with you the Dietary Guidelines for Americans listed below:

- Build a healthy plate (make ½ your plate fruits and vegetables; switch to skim or 1% milk; make at least ½ your grains whole; vary your protein food choices)

- Cut back on foods high in solid fats, added sugars, and salt (choose foods & drinks with little or no added sugars; look out for salt/sodium in foods you buy – it all adds up; eat few foods that are high in solid fats)

- Eat the right amount of calories for you (go to www.choosemyplate.gov to calculate your daily calorie needs based on your weight, height, age, activity level; enjoy your food but eat less – watch portion sizes; cook/eat more often at home, where you are more in control of what’s in your food; when eating out, choose lower calorie menu options; write down what you eat to keep track of how much you eat; use food labels to help you make better choices)

- Be physically active your way – Every bit of exercise adds up and the health benefits increase as you spend more time being active!

It is my prayer that you will try to make exercise and healthy eating a part of your family’s lifestyle.  Thank you!

Respectfully,

Mrs. Allison Stiles

Dear Parents,

As the weather grows cooler, we have decided to allow button down "oxford" style shirts as part of the uniform.  We hope  this will allow some of you to use clothing you have for church and not have to purchase more.  Please ask your children to continue to dress respectfully and present themselves in the best manner possible as representatives of BCS.

Nestor Stewart Roast Success!

Over 100 guests visited Central when we honored Mr. Nestor Stewart last Thursday night. He spoke of three main points: Godliness, hard work and honesty... the three main things we strive to teach at Boyd Christian School. When he spoke we were moved to tears and then quickly to laughter. What a blessed evening. Nestor encompasses humility and work ethic. What an honor to be able to Roast him.  We look forward to the next annual Roast... who will it be?

I asked some of our student body to attend to represent those students whom Nestor has helped through the numerous donations for man years. His influence at Boyd is invaluable.

Nursery Rhyme Day in Kindergarten

Mrs. Amanda Burks invited me down to kindergarten this morning to observe the children reciting their nursery rhymes. Mrs. Amanda follows the state standard that all children in her class recite familiar nursery rhymes. The students told us what rhyme they were reciting and who their character is.

They were not nervous at all! They did an amazing job. I was thrilled to be asked to be a part of this fun day. Enjoy the pictures from class this morning.
