From the Superintendent

I want to thank all of you who so generously supported our Spring Benefit Dinner last Saturday night. I know that our economy is struggling at this time. Your continued support of Boyd Christian is especially appreciated. Thanks to Mrs. Suzanne Reed and our Interact Club for serving at the banquet. Our students represented our school so well. I have heard many kind words about our kids from people not associated with our school.

Mr. Stallings’ speech was videotaped by Ben Lomand. We are trying to obtain copies that we can sell to our community. Please let us know if you would like a copy. I am extremely grateful to Coach Stallings for appearing at our dinner. Coach Stallings had spent four hours that morning signing autographs in Jasper, Alabama, and then drove four hours to get to McMinnville. He is constantly in demand to speak at charitable functions. He genuinely has a heart for service.

Yesterday, our high school teachers visited International Baccalaureate classes at Cookeville High School. This was the next step as we study the feasibility of the program here at Boyd. Our teachers came away very impressed and encouraged by the possibilities. More and more universities are rewarding IB graduates. Cookeville currently has 156 students in the IB program, although most only take individual courses and do not pursue the entire diploma. In 2007, eight students graduated with the full IB diploma. The University of Tulsa (Oklahoma) offered all eight students a fully-paid four-year college education. None of the eight students accepted the scholarships from Tulsa because they all received ample scholarship money to the universities they wanted to attend.

Online Demonstration of Ren-Web
Friday, April 10, 9:00 AM

On Friday, April 10, there will be an online demonstration for Ren-Web, a competitor of Edline. Our teachers who have already gone through a demonstration have said that it is easier to use and does more than Edline. You have the opportunity to participate in this live “webinar”, just for our families, from your home computer. It’s simple and easy! We will post a link to a web address on the blog, along with an 800 phone number to access a conference call with the representative. I hope that many of you have the chance to participate in the demonstration, and I look forward to getting feedback from you.
