Grandparent's Day Program and Lunch

Friday May 1 Grandparents Day will begin at 10:00 AM.

Please turn in your lunch reservations and money by Thursday as food will only be provided for those who send in their reservation. Thank you.

PreKinder Classes

Mr. Harper has announced there will be a pre-kinder class in the fall taught by Renee Burch. Kristi Bost is currently considering taking the 4 year old class. As you may already know, both teachers are phenomenal. If you know of anyone with children 3 or 4, please do spread the word and let them know that they are more than welcome at Boyd! Please feel free to contact us with any questions. The pre-kinder day lasts the same duration as the regular school day. Tuition is also the same. Thank you.

Chorus Concert Was a Huge Hit!

From the Superintendent

Please remember the Open House for new and prospective families On Monday, May 4, at 7:00. If you have friends who are considering Boyd for next year, please invite them to attend. You are also welcome to accompany your guests. Please remember the referral bonus you can receive for families that you refer to Boyd.

In our last newsletter, I indicated that the Board had approved a $10 per month tuition increase. I was in error on this topic; the $10 was only a proposal that is under consideration and was not approved in the April 16 meeting.

Please remember to pre-register for 2009-10 as soon as possible.

I want to thank Jeanne Hagar and our Chorus for the wonderful presentation last Thursday evening. Thanks again to all of you who came out to support this event.

Please remember to tell your relatives and friends about the addition of our 3 year old pre-kinder class. Interested families should register their children right away.

PTF is selling Mothers Day baskets. These will be on display in the elementary hallway.

BCS Supporters, PTF wants to thank everyone who helped clean up the BCS campus last Saturday. I didn't count, but we probably had 30-40 people during the day. We especially want to thank BETA, Interact, and NHS; it was nice of the students to get out of bed on a Saturday to help around campus. There was gravel added to both parking lots, mulch put on the playground, new swings put up, the "big" tree moved and hauled off, etc. A BIG THANK YOU goes to Mary's Greenhouse for donating plants and soil at the front going into the main building; the flowers look wonderful! Don't forget to view the assortment of baskets you can purchase for Mother's Day. Several people have worked together to help put together this PTF fundraiser. Samples will be on a table in the hallway to view. Parents are being contacted to bring items for the Teacher Appreciation Day scheduled for May 8th. You may e-mail me at aramsey@fcbcs.org if you haven't been contacted and would like to do something. Anyone who wants to help that day can be at the school anytime between 8:00 and 3:00 PM. I know the teachers/staff are looking forward to this day, so lets try to make it a GREAT day for them. The PTF Officers want to thank Goolsby Sausage for the fundraiser. They gave the money for the top 3 sellers and also gave us ALL the money that was paid for the sausage. If you see James, Donna, Holly, or Mandy, please tell them THANK YOU. Please make plans to attend the next PTF meeting scheduled for Thursday, 04/30/09, at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria. Thank you for supporting BCS and Christian Education!! You are GREATLY appreciated. Campus Clean Up Day

Thank you goes out to Angela Ramsey and PTF, Interact, NHS, and some BETA members worked as well as many parents. Thank you for taking pride in our campus!

Newsletter

From the Superintendent

I want to thank all of you who participated in our Campus Clean-up day last Saturday. So many people worked so hard to clean up the campus, remove the brush pile and dead tree, improve the pre-kinder playground and our parking lot. Thank you again for all that you do for Boyd Christian.

At the School Board meeting last week, the Board approved the addition of a 3 year old pre-kinder class, contingent upon having seven students enroll. If you have a child who will be three years old, or if you know of another family that might be interested, please contact us as soon as possible. We need to know as soon as possible if we will have enough students to have this class.

The Board also approved a tuition increase of only $10 per month, or $110 per year, per student. Our Board is committed to keeping tuition as affordable as possible.

Please remember our Chorus concert this Thursday, April 23. Mrs. Jeanne Hagar and the chorus are working hard to prepare, and I’m certain that it will be quite a show! Tickets are $4.00 and may be purchased at the door.

Please remember the Open House for new and prospective families on Monday, May 4, at 7:00. If you have friends who are considering Boyd for next year, please invite them to attend. You are also welcome to accompany your guests. Please remember the referral bonus you can receive for families that you refer to Boyd.

Please remember to return the pre-registration forms for 2009-10 as soon as possible. If you need another copy of the registration form, you can print it off the blog, or you can call Terry Stubblefield in the office and ask her to send another one home

April AC T Scores

We have just received the scores from the most recent ACT Test. I am happy to announce that our average composite score was 21.8. This is up from our recent three-year average of 20.6. Warren County’s latest three-year average was 20.2, and the state average is 20.7. Special congratulations go to Zach Arnold and Megan Boren who each scored 32 on the reading portion of the test. This was higher than 95% of all other students in the country who took the test. Congratulations, Zach and Megan!

There are a few things that the PTF Officers want to remind you of. We will have several baskets on display SOON for you to view and purchase for Mother's Day and/or a birthday for someone special. These will be placed on a table close to the front door for you to view and a sign up sheet to reserve your basket. We will have a certain number of baskets put together for each "special" theme. We have a PTF Meeting scheduled for 04/30/09 in the BCS cafteria at 6:30 PM. We appreciate the support you have given to Christian Education and pray that you will continue to support BCS. From the Superintendent

We are now taking pre-registrations for next year. Since we are starting a little bit later, we have extended the date for the $50 early registration discount until May 15. Tuition has not yet been set by the Board; however, I have recommended that it not increase more than $150, if that much. In addition, I have recommended that we institute a program similar to that found at other private schools where parents are required to donate a certain number of hours volunteering to assist in different areas...working the concessions stand or fair food booth, assisting with maintenance and lawn care, etc. A parent who chooses not to volunteer the hours could instead choose to pay an additional fee. Such a program will enable us to cut costs.

I am very excited about our enrollment for next year. We have had many new families come by to visit, and some have already registered their children. Also, please remember the referral bonus for recommending new students to Boyd Christian!

Please return School Pictures by Thursday, April 9.
Please return proofs even if you are not purchasing photos.

Newsletter

From the Superintendent

I want to thank all of you who so generously supported our Spring Benefit Dinner last Saturday night. I know that our economy is struggling at this time. Your continued support of Boyd Christian is especially appreciated. Thanks to Mrs. Suzanne Reed and our Interact Club for serving at the banquet. Our students represented our school so well. I have heard many kind words about our kids from people not associated with our school.

Mr. Stallings’ speech was videotaped by Ben Lomand. We are trying to obtain copies that we can sell to our community. Please let us know if you would like a copy. I am extremely grateful to Coach Stallings for appearing at our dinner. Coach Stallings had spent four hours that morning signing autographs in Jasper, Alabama, and then drove four hours to get to McMinnville. He is constantly in demand to speak at charitable functions. He genuinely has a heart for service.

Yesterday, our high school teachers visited International Baccalaureate classes at Cookeville High School. This was the next step as we study the feasibility of the program here at Boyd. Our teachers came away very impressed and encouraged by the possibilities. More and more universities are rewarding IB graduates. Cookeville currently has 156 students in the IB program, although most only take individual courses and do not pursue the entire diploma. In 2007, eight students graduated with the full IB diploma. The University of Tulsa (Oklahoma) offered all eight students a fully-paid four-year college education. None of the eight students accepted the scholarships from Tulsa because they all received ample scholarship money to the universities they wanted to attend.
